Aus epidemiologischen Erhebungen geht hervor, dass Amerikaner heute durchschnittlich 500 Kilokalorien pro Tag mehr essen als noch in den 1970er Jahren. Bereits ein Überschuss von 50-100 Kilokalorien pro Tag (dies entspricht ungefähr den besagten zwei Keksen) kann dazu führen, dass das Körpergewicht um bis zu drei Kilogramm pro Jahr ansteigt. Dies bedeutet für die Dauer von 10 Jahren einen Anstieg von bis zu 30 Kilogramm!
